Umbrella

Evo još jednog teksta u kom će doći do izražaja moj novobeogradski lokal-patriotizam. Ovaj put vodimo vas u Umbrella-u.

Ova restoran postoji nešto više od godinu dana i za to vreme okupio je veliki broj posetilaca, što uslugom, što ponudom. Nalazi se u 38-om bloku i pravo je osveženje za ovaj i okolne blokove, jer skoro nismo imali mesto koje pleni elegancijom, ljubaznošću i vedrinom. Dok prolazite pored ovog restorana, ne može da vam ne zapadne za oko - cigla i prostrana, lepa bašta, koja osvaja već na prvi pogled, a na drugi vas čini svojim redovnim gostom.

Ono što bih, svakako, izdvojila kao posebno lep deo je već pomenuta bašta. Leti, ili u proleće, kao i u ranu jesen, zadovoljstvo je ovde sedeti i konzumirati nešto iz ponude jela i/ili pića. Drvene i raznobojne stolice sa saksijama na stubovima od cigli daju vam dodatni osećaj lepote i opuštencije, pa će dan ili veče provedeno ovde biti nešto čemu ćete se rado vratiti. Kad je hladno, ne treba da očajavate što vam bašta nije pristupačna. Možete da se smestite unutra, na stolice ili visoko (mekano) sedenje i bilo da želite da provedete ugodno vreme sa društvom, lepšom/jačom polovinom ili da održite poslovni sastanak, svako će biti zadovoljan kad bude sumirao utiske.

S obzirom da sam iz susednog bloka, logično je da ovde relativno često boravim, ali sam odlučila da sa svojom najboljom i još jednom drugaricom konačno posetim ovo mesto kao Gastro policija. Bez obzira što je meni bogat, nije nam dugo trebalo da se odlučimo, pa smo naručile Burger (495 rsd), Tortilju sa piletinom (435 rsd) i Picu sa morskim plodovima (880 rsd). Zaista je sve bilo i više nego lepo: burger sa svežim mesom i ukusnim, svežim lepinjama sa susamom, čeri paradajzom i prilozima kojih je bilo tačno u skladu sa veličinom burgera, kao i ukusnim pomfritom. Tortilja kod koje, takođe, svežina i prilozi nisu oskudevali, poslužena uz domaćinski krompir, bilo je ono što nas je zasitilo na više sati tog dana. Pica sa morskim plodovima zaslužuje posebne pohvale, jer pored toga što je bila preukusna moram da napomenem da je pravljena od crnog testa, koje je i više nego ukusno, a drugarici, koja je veliki ljubitelj rukole, su po želji stavili rukolu na picu, koja u osnovi nije sastav iste i kad spojite njen ukus sa pelatom, mocarelom, morskim plodovima, čerijem, belim lukom i maslinama, zaista dobijate jednu ekspoloziju ukusa, u kojima će uživati i najveći hedonisti. Uz izvanrednu hranu, osvežili smo se Paulaner-om i koktelima Sex on the beach i Blue lagoon. Ponuda piva, kao i koktela, je, inače, veoma solidna, pa za šta god da se odlučite, nećete pogrešiti.

Preko dana, ekipu ovog restorana uglavnom čine poslovni ljudi, a veče je rezervisano za lokalce, svih uzrasta.  Kad se spoje lep ambijent sa mnogo zanimljivih detalja, ukusna hrana i ljubaznost konobara, do koje se ovde izuzetno drži, retko ko ovde može da ostane ravnodušan.

Here is another post in which my local patriotism(New Belgrade) will become prominent. This time, we’re taking you to Umbrella.

This restaurant exist for a little over a year now, and during that time it has gathered a large number of visitors, both because of their service and their offer. It’s located in 38th block and it’s a real novelty for this block and the surrounding ones, because it’s been a while since we had such a place that captivates with elegance, courtesy and serenity. You’ll surely notice this restaurant while passing by - bricks and spacious, beautiful garden, which wins you over at first glance, and at the second one, it makes you their regular guests.

What I would certainly single out, as a particularly beautiful area, is the, already mentioned, garden. During the summer, or in the spring, in the early fall as well, it’s a pleasure to sit here and try something from their menu/drink list. Wooden colorful chairs, flower pots on the brick pillars, these give you an extra sense of beauty and peace, so the day or evening spent here will be something you'll be happy to return to. When the weather is cold, there’s no need to despair about the inaccessible garden. You can sit inside, there are lounge chairs and high soft seating, and whether you want to spend a pleasant time with your friends, or your better half or have a business meeting, everyone will be pleased when they summ up their impressions.

Since I live in the block next to this one, it’s logical that I often come here, but this time I decided that I finally visit this restaurant as Gastro police, with two of my friends. No matter the fact that the menu is big, it didn’t take long for us to decide, so we ordered a Burger (495 RSD), Chicken tortilla (435 RSD) and Seafood pizza(880 RSD). Everything was really more than good, fresh meat in the burger and delicious, fresh buns with sesame seeds, cherry tomatoes and other ingredients,  in the amount perfectly in line with the size of the burger and delicious fries. Tortilla, which was also fresh and not lacking in ingredients, served with potato wedges, we were full up for several hours after eating it. Seafood pizza deserves a special praise, because in addition to being delicious, I must mention that it was made out of black pizza dough, which is more than delicious, and by my friend’s desire, who is a big fan of rocket salad, they put some rocket salad on the pizza, even though they don’t normally make it like that, and when you combine its taste with tomato sauce, mozzarella, seafood, cherry tomatoes, garlic and olives, you get a real explosion of tastes, which would satisfy even the greatest hedonists. Along with the excellent food, we sipped the Paulaner beer and cocktails Sex on the beach and Blue lagoon. Their offer of beers and cocktails is very good, but you won’t go wrong for whatever you decide.

During the day, the guests are mostly business people, and the evening is reserved for locals of all ages. There’s hardly anyone that can stay indifferent when you combine a nice ambience with a lot of interesting details, delicious food and kindness of waiters, which they cherish.

Pribojski roštilj

Kada vam pomenu srpsku kuhinju, na šta prvo pomislite? Pa na roštilj, naravno! Gastro policija je obišla pregršt restorana u nadi da pronađe savršen roštilj, ali i posle toliko pojedenog roštilja, nijedan nije mogao da se uporedi sa ukusom roštilja u jednom malom restoranu na Zrenjaninskom putu, i baš zbog toga mislim da zaslužuje da mu Gastro policija posveti jedan post! Dobrodošli u Pribojski roštilj!

Čim uz roštilj stoji Priboj, to već miriše na dobro. Smešten na Zrenjaninskom putu, ovaj mali restoran ćete odmah zavoleti. Drvene klupe, zelenilo, i domaćinska opuštena atmosfera su njihovo obeležje. Kad god me put ovde nanese, svratim na klopu, jer me apsolutno nikada nisu razočarali. Naravno, ukoliko niste u mogućnosti da dođete ovde, možete i da poručite roštilj preko kućne dostave, mada ja uvek više volim da ih posetim, jer roštilj bez prostora sa drvenim klupama nije roštilj.

Roštilj je ovde zaista fenomenalan! Meso savršeno, ćevapčići sočni, lepinje vrele! Cene u skladu sa cenama po fast food-ovima, pa tako pet ćevapa košta 180 rsd, lepinja 30 rsd, a pomfrit (velika porcija) 110 rsd. Jeftinije nego da sami spremate kod kuće. Kada sam prvi put jela ovde ćevape, prva misao mi je bila, Bože zašto ovo mesto ne postoji negde u mom kraju? Pored roštilja, imate izbor od preko deset salata koje možete da uzmete kao prilog. Ja se uvek odlučim za urnebes, koji je kao i roštilj ovde savršeno začinjen, i ljut baš koliko treba! Naravno roštilj ne bi bio roštilj, ako se ne bi zalio pivom, tako da ovde možete da popijete Amstel, Heineken ili Tamno zaječarsko. Pored roštilja, spremaju i pice, a ukoliko želite da zasladite tu su i palačinke.

When someone speaks of Serbian cuisine, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind? The barbecue, of course! Gastro police visited a handful of restaurants in the hope of finding the perfect barbecue, but after eating a lot of different kinds of it , none could be compared with the taste of the barbecue in one small restaurant on the Zrenjanin road, and because of that, I think it deserves an entire post by Gastro police! Welcome to the Pribojski rostilj (Priboj barbecue)!

If the word Priboj stands next to the word barbecue, that’s already a good sign. You will instantly fall in love with this little restaurant, which is located on the Zrenjanin road. Wooden benches, greenery and relaxed, homely atmosphere are their key features. Whenever the road takes me here, I stop to eat, because I’ve never been disappointed with them. Of course, if you’re not able to visit them, there’s a delivery option, although I prefer to visit them, because eating barbecue while not being in ambiance with wooden benches, is not a proper barbecue experience.

The barbecue is truly phenomenal here! Perfect meat, juicy kebabs, hot flatbreads! The prices in line with the prices in fast food restaurants, so you get five kebabs for 180 rsd, a flatbread for 30 rsd, and French fries (large portion) for 110 rsd. Cheaper to eat here than preparing it at home. When I first tried kebabs here, my first thought was: My God why doesn’t this place exist somewhere in my neighborhood? In addition to barbecue, you have a choice of over ten salads that you can choose as a side dish. I always choose Urnebes salad, which is, like the barbecue itself, perfectly seasoned, and spiced just how much it should be! Of course, there’s no good barbecue without having a beer along with it, so here you can drink Amstel, Heineken or Zajecarsko Dark beer. Apart from the barbecue, they have pizzas, too, and if you want something sweet, they have sweet crepes.

Once more, Gastro police enjoyed with all senses, and if you also want to have a taste of a real barbecue, and enjoy in a place with cozy atmosphere, just visit Pribojski rostilj! Because once you try the kebabs here, you won’t want them anywhere else, I guarantee that!

Supermarket Talas

Miholjsko leto u Beogradu nije retka pojava, naprotiv, svake godine svi (ili bar većina nas) željno iščekujemo tih nekoliko toplih i sunčanih dana, kada živnemo, što psihički, što fizički. Ja te dane najviše volim da provedem u šetnji i ručku sa svojom najboljom drugaricom, najčešće na Zemunskom keju. 

Tog dana smo izabrale destinaciju za šetnju, ali ne i restoran. Rekle smo da ćemo da šetamo, pa gde nas put nanese i kad ogladnimo, tu ćemo sesti. Nikad se nije lako odlučiti za restoran u ovom delu grada, jer je većina njih veoma dobra i na dobrom glasu, a mi uvek biramo mesto na kom još uvek nismo bile, tako da je to otežavalo izbor. Nakon mnooogooo razmišljanja, odlučile smo se za Supermarket Talas.

Ovaj, relativno nov, restoran vam već na prvi pogled, dok šetate, privuče pažnju. Izuzetno zanimljivo je uređen, sa stilom i ukusom, da treba da ga opišem u jednoj reči glasilo bi - hipsterski. I ovde, kao i na većini originalnih mesta, ćete videti preplitanje stilova, pa već na ulazu u baštu nalaze se okrugli drveni stolovi i zelene stolice koje pripadaju stilskom nameštaju, kao i moderne bele stolice sa četvorougaonim stolovima. Ima i drugih boja u bašti, ali ove dominiraju. Kako je već bilo kasno popodne, postalo je malo hladnjikavo, pa smo se ipak odlučile da sednemo unutra, gde je, isto, veoma lepo uređeno i prijatno. Smestile smo se za sto pored prozora na spratu, a tu dominiraju visoke, drvene stolice, ja bih ih opisala kao one iz školske klupe, samo u modernijem fazonu. Bile su mi veoma simpatične, ali i malo neudobne, ali da smo htele, mogle smo da se premestimo za neki sto sa udobnijim stolicana. Pregršt zanimljivih detalja čini ovo mesto posebnim i specifičnim, kao što rekoh, hipsterskim, pa imaju pohvalu od mene i za enterijer i za eksterijer.

 Meni mi se odmah svideo, jer je kao i ambijent, originalan i par jela su mi odmah zapala za oko. Posle kraćeg razmišljanja, odlučila sam se za Stir fry beef chilli (komadi bifteka spremljeni u ojster soja sosu, serviran sa jasmin rižom) - 920 rsd, a drugarica za Super magic steak (ćureći stek zapečen sa čedar sirom preliven magičnim tamnim sosom) - 890 rsd. Oba jela su bila fenomenalna, malo više posoljena, što nama savršeno odgovara jer je to baš po našem ukusu, ali moram priznati da mi se jelo moje drugarice, kad sam ga probala, za nijansu više svidelo, tako da ću ga sledeći put kad dođem ovde definitivno i ja naručiti. Uz jelo smo pijuckale pivo, čiji je izbor veliki, odlučile smo se da probamo neko pšenično koje do sad nismo pile i izbor je pao na Hacker-Pschorr i mislim da sam, pored Paulanera, otkrila novo omiljeno pivo.

Da li zbog uzbuđenja što nam se malo vratilo sunce ili zbog nečeg drugog, Gastro policija je ovaj put odlučila da uzme i desert! Uglavnom ga ne jedemo samo iz razloga što nam nikad apetit nije toliki, ali ovaj dan je bio izuzetak. Ja sam se odmah odlučila za cheese cake (360 rsd), a drugarica za hladne palačinke sa francuskim kremom i prelivom od pomorandže (350 rsd). Moj, inače, omiljeni desert su palačinke i kad mi se jede nešto slatko one su najčešće moj izbor, ali ovaj put mi se nešto mnogo jeo cheese cake, a i bila sam skeptična kakav je taj krem u palačinkama. Tog dana moja draga drugarica je imala bolji feeling za biranje jela, njene palačinke su bile fenomenalne, a moj cheese cake, možda bi najbolje bilo da kažem, neobičan. Nekako rustičan,  definitivno drugačiji, nije imao izgled, a ni ukus klasičnog cheese cake-a. U meniju piše da je sa borovnicom, ali pored nje, još nešto je davalo neku specifičnu notu, više je imao ukus domaće pite, to bi bio najpribližniji opis. Svakako nije bio klasičan cheese cake, mislim da neke stvari ipak ne treba menjati i da treba da se drže klasičnog recepta, a da naglase ako je drugačije.

Indian summer in Belgrade is not a rare phenomenon, on the contrary, every year, we all (or at least most of us) eagerly await those few warm and sunny days, when we liven up, both mentally and physically. During those days I prefer taking a walk and having lunch with my best friend, most often down the Zemun quay.

That day, we have chosen the destination for our walk, but not a restaurant.We said that we would let the road take us and when we get hungry, we'll go to the nearest place. It’s never easy to decide on a restaurant in this part of the city because most of them are very good, with a good reputation, and as we always choose the place where we still haven’t been, it's a difficult choice.After a lot of thinking, we decided for Supermarket Talas.

This relatively new restaurant will attract your attention at first glance. Very interestingly decorated, with style and taste, if I had to describe it in one word it would be - hipsterish. Here, as well as in the most original places, you’ll see the interweaving of styles, so at the entrance to the garden there are parlor round wooden tables and green chairs and also modern white chairs with rectangular tables. There are other colors in the garden, but these dominate. As it was already late in the afternoon, it became a little chilly, so we decided to sit inside, where everything is very nicely decorated and cozy, too. We chose a table by the window on the first floor, and high, wooden chairs dominate in this area, I would describe them as those we can find in the classroom, only in more modern way. I liked them a lot, but they were also a little uncomfortable, but if we wanted, we had a choice to move to a table with more comfortable chairs. A wealth of interesting details makes this place special and specific, as I said, hipsterish, so I compliment them for interior and exterior.

I instantly liked the menu, because it’s original like the restaurant itself, and a couple of dishes immediately caught my eye. After some thinking, I decided for Stir fry beef chilli (steak slices prepared in oyster soy sauce, served with jasmine rice) - 920 rsd, my friend chose Super magic steak (turkey steak with cheddar cheese, topped with dark magic sauce) - 890 rsd.Both dishes were phenomenal, a bit more salted, which perfectly suits us because it’s according to our taste, but I must admit that, when I tried it, I liked my friend’s dish a bit more, so the next time I come here, I will definitely order that one. During our meal we sipped beer, there’s a big selection of it, we decided to try some wheat beer that we haven’t tried so far, so we chose the Hacker-Pschorr, and I think that I have discovered my new favorite beer, in addition to Paulaner.

Whether because of the excitement about the sunny days or something else, this time Gastro police this time decided to order a dessert! We basically don’t eat it just because our appetite is not that big, but we made an exception this day. I immediately chose Cheese cake (360 RSD), and my friend Cold crepes with French filling and orange dressing (350 RSD).  Anyway, crepes are my favorite dessert and when I want to eat something sweet, they are usually my choice, but this time I wanted a cheese cake so bad, and I was kind of skeptical of this filling in pancakes. That day, my dear friend had a better feeling for the choice of dishes, her pancakes were fantastic, and my cheese cake, it might be best to say, unusual. Somehow rustic, definitely different, neither it looked like the classic cheese cake nor it tasted like one. The menu said it was a blueberry cheese cake, but next to it, something else gave a specific note, it tasted like a homemade pie, that would be the closest description. It certainly wasn’t a classic cheese cake, I think that some things are not to be changed and that they should stick to the classic recipe, and to emphasize otherwise.

Zapata

Primetila sam da ljudi u mojoj okolini najmanje pažnje posvećuju najvažnijem obroku u toku dana - doručku! Da li zbog brojnih obaveza ne stižu da mu se posvete, ne znam, ali što se mene tiče meni su jutro, kafica i doručak nedeljom u Zapati postali ritual kog ne želim nikad da se odreknem. A posle mog posta, verovatno ćete i vi deliti moje mišljenje.

U Beogradu postoje tri Zapata restorana. Prvi Zapata restoran koji je otvoren nalazi se u blizini Vukovog spomenika, Zapata Ciudad koji je drugi u nizu ovih restorana nalazi se u centru grada u blizini Knez Mihailove, a Zapata Rio lociran je na Novom Beogradu, na keju kod Hotela Jugoslavija. Što se mene tiče Zapata Ciudad mi se nalazi u komšiluku tako da tamo odlazim najčešće, ali kada krenu gradske vrućine ništa ne može da zameni doručak i pogled na Dunav koji imam iz bašte Zapata Rio.

Zapata je naravno meksički restoran, s obzirom da je ime dobio po meksičkom revolucinaru Emilianu Zapati. Shodno tome meni je bogat meksičkim specijalitetima kao što su Chimichanga, Quesada, Enchilada, Burito, Flautas i još mnogi drugi (kompletan meni sa cenama možete da vidite na njihovom sajtu). Ovaj restoran nudi sjajne akcije pa u vreme ručka možete za male pare lepo da se najedete. Ali ono po čemu je Zapata postala najprepoznatljivija u poslednje vreme je njihov čuveni meksički doručak, tako da ću se u ovom postu najviše posvetiti njemu, jer kako već rekoh na početku posta - doručak je najvažniji obrok!

Ko nije čuo za doručak u Zapati, taj definitivno nije iz Beograda, mogu slobodno da kažem! Akcija doručka traje svakog dana od 9h-12h, vikendom do 13h, i podrazumeva doručak, sok i kafu za 345 rsd. Mislim da takvu ponudu definitivno nigde u gradu nećete naći, a pod tim mislim na cenu, kvalitet i kvantitet!

U okviru ove akcije imate izbor od 5-6 jela, i sva su preeeukusna i budite sigurni da ćete se teško odlučiti šta da naručite. Ponude se malo razlikuju od restorana do restorana, pa tako Huevos Rancheros možete da naručite u Zapati Ciudad, dok recimo Chimichangu možete da jedete jedino ako odete u Zapata Rio. Naravno pored ova dva jela tu su i Pohovana piletina, Engleski doručak, Quesada, Quesadilla, Club sandwich. Uz svako od ovih jela možete da birate da li ćete da popijete Sprite, Đus ili sok od jabuke, a nakon obimnog obroka na vama je da odlučite da li ćete da popijete espreso, kapućino ili neku drugu kafu. I da! Sve to ćete platiti za 345 rsd, i garantujem vam nećete pola dana osetiti glad, jer sve što vam je potrebno dobićete na tanjiru Zapata restorana. Jaja, piletina, slanina, viršle, povrće, sir, pomfrit, na vama je samo da se odlučite!

Kada je usluga ovih restorana u pitanju, mogu vam samo reći da bez obzira što su prepuni i jure od jednog do drugog stola, uvek će vas dočekati sa osmehom na licu. Čak i da vam se učini da su svi stolovi zauzeti što je standardno u Zapati u vreme doručka, oni će naći mesto i za vas. Jer vi ste njihov gost, a oni su vaši domaćini, i potrudiće se da im se svakog jutra vratite. A posle jednog doručka kod njih, shvatićete da nijedno "dobro jutro" nije dobro ukoliko ga niste započeli doručkom u Zapati!

I noticed that the people around my surroundings pay least attention to the most important meal of the day - breakfast! I don’t know why, perhaps because their daily duties, but in my case, each Sunday morning, coffee and breakfast at Zapata became a ritual which I’ll never give up. And after this post, you’ll probably agree with me.

There are three Zapata restaurants in Belgrade. The first opened Zapata restaurant is located near Vukov spomenik (monument to Vuk Karadzic), Zapata Ciudad, which is the second in a chain of these restaurants, is located in the city center near Knez Mihailova Street, and Zapata Rio is located in New Belgrade, on the quay at the Hotel Yugoslavia. As for me, since Zapata Ciudad is in my neighborhood, I go there most of the times, but during hot summer days, nothing can replace the breakfast and the view of the Danube, which I get from the garden of Zapata Rio.

Of course, Zapata is a Mexican restaurant, since it got its name after the Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata. Accordingly, the menu is filled with Mexican specialties such as Chimichanga, Quesada, Enchilada, Burrito, Flautas and many more (you can find the complete menu with the prices on their website). This restaurant has some great offers, so during lunch time you can get a nice meal and eat out on a budget . But lately, the thing that Zapata became the most recognizable for is their famous Mexican breakfast, so this post I dedicate to it, because, as I said at the beginning - breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

It’s safe to say that the person who hasn’t heard of breakfast in Zapata yet, definitely isn’t from Belgrade! The breakfast offer is on the menu every day from 9 am-12 pm, on weekends until 13h, and it includes breakfast, juice and coffee for a price of 345 rsd. I think that such an offer can’t be found anywhere in the city, and by that I mean the price, the quality and the quantity!

As part of this offer, you can choose between 5-6 dishes, and they are all delicious, and I guarantee that you’ll have a hard time to decide what to order. Offers vary slightly from restaurant to restaurant, so e.g. you can order Huevos Rancheros in Zapata Ciudad, and you can eat Chimichanga only if you go to Zapata Rio. Of course in addition to these two dishes, there also are Fried chicken, English breakfast, Quesada, Quesadilla, Club Sandwich. With each of these dishes, you can choose whether you want to drink Sprite, orange juice or apple juice, and after this large meal, it is up to you to decide whether you want to drink espresso, cappuccino or some other kind of coffee. And yes! All of this you will pay 345 rsd, and I guarantee you won’t feel hungry almost all day, because all that you need you will get on the plate of Zapata restaurant. Eggs, chicken, bacon, sausages, vegetables, cheese, French fries, you only have to choose which you prefer!

As for the service in these restaurants, I can only say that it doesn’t matter that they are almost always full and that they rush from one table to another, the staff will always welcome you with a smile. Even if you think that all the tables are occupied, which is normal in Zapata, especially during breakfast time, they will find a place for you. Because you are their guest, and they are your hosts, and they will do their best to make you visit again each morning. And after one breakfast in their restaurant, you’ll realize that no "good morning" is good enough if it didn’t start with the  breakfast in Zapata!
